Reliance launching EVDO service in India

There is been roomers and talks, that, just like BSNL, Reliance is also preparing to launch their EVDO service for high speed mobile broadband. Till date Reliance have not made any official statement about the service launch.

However today, while I was searching for some driver update at Windows update service for my EVDO modem of BSNL, I came to see that MS Windows update service does list driver for specific Reliance CDMA EVDO device.

Windows update listing EDVO Modem ZTE AC8700 800M drivers for Reliance

It seems ZTE would also be supplying to Reliance and same models also.

Update :-

Reliance NetConnect logo

As its turns out, Reliance has launched the service. There are 2 device options from ZTE (almost same as BSNL) and Huawei.

huawei-ec168c-bbOne may take a look at service plans at Reliance Netconnect web site. It is claimed that with upto 3.1 mbps, reliance is the fastest EVDO service provider along with largest EVDO covarage but as always with Reliance, there must be something out of order, and there is. It seems their Unlimited plans are just a straight lie. The word unlimited to reliance means 10 GB as all their unlimited plans comes with 10 GB data transfer limit and after which they will charge you Rs. 2/- per MB.

Windows Server 2008 is one of the most secure OS of year 2008

Studies conducted by IBM reviles that it is Windows OS which leads in terms of security over Apple OS X (MAC) or Linux karnel.

It is a long believe that, Linux and Apple OS X is much more secure than Windows based OS, where as reports published by IBM suggest opposite as IBM X-Force have found Windows Server 2008 more secure than OS X or any linux platform.

ibm_report

It is Apple OS X Server which is one of the worst in terms of disclosed vulnerabilities. However, do note, the report is prepared on basis of disclosed vulnerabilities, meaning there can be many more open loop holes in these OSes which are yet to be found that patched !!!

How to make your internet connection faster ?

Yaaaaawn...

At-least 10,000 times, since 2000, in last 8 years I have google-d / MSN-ed / Yahoo-ed / Altavisat-ed and all other search engine-ed to find the right answer or tips and tricks or tweaks for the question as how do I make my Internet connection faster ?

No matter what type of connection I use, Dial up, EDGE, ADSL, broadband, cable or any such, I always feel to be slower than usual !!!

Why ??

While searching, I have learned few very important lesson and hard facts which I would like to share with my readers. Some of the facts are not that satisfactory for our mind but what to do, facts are like that.. Most of the time they are hard to believe !!

First and most important is to understanding our own limits

Many of us tends to overlook or simply forget the difference between Kilo Bytes and Kilo Bits. many of us wants to view Windows or our download manager reporting download speeds of 200 kbps+ with a connection in which ISP have promised to offer 256 kbps.

Matter of fact, all of our ISPs advertise their bandwidth in Kilobits per seconds, which is 8 times higher than Kilobytes per second, in which Windows or any other download manager would calculate the file transfer rate.

Meaning, in case of a 256 kbps connection, we are suppose to get 32 kilo bytes per second of download speed.

Kaspersky Universal updater – Tips and tricks and how to use it ?

An interesting update solution from Kaspersky Labs are now in public Beta stage !! Which is suppose to replace all off-line update solutions from Kaspersky LABs.

The idea is simple. Provide users a tool which can be run from USB / removal media to download the product updates in that USB / removable media, which now can be used to update the kaspersky product offline by taking the USB / removal media to any PC which has Kaspersky product but no live Internet.

The tool is downloadable from Kaspesky web site, it has 2 versions, one CLI and a GUI for both Windows and Linux platform. As an end user I guess we all would love the GUI one.

Windows Vista problem – SATA HDD running under PATA mode via BIOS emulation

Many of computer users who are early adapters of Windows Vista likes to have both their previous version and newer version of OS under dual boot mode.

One common problem with newer hardware and older Microsoft OS such as Windows XP is the incompatibility of SATA controllers.

Most of the newer desktop and notebooks are now days coming with SATA HDD instead of older and slower PATA versions, however the major problem with Windows XP is one must install the SATA controller drivers while booting via their floppy drive but here catch is, how many of us now days have a floppy drive ?

HDD operation mode - SATA - IDE - RAID controller BIOS option

To avoid this problem of no hard disk at the time of installation of Windows XP / 2000 / Server 2003 which needs floppy disk to load the SATA controller driver, all modern computer BIOS offers option to emulate the Hard disk operation mode.

All though this would solve the problem of legacy pre Windows Vista OS installation problem, however often windows vista crashes while running under a PC which has SATA HDD operation mode emulated to IDE.

Microsoft has a patch for all version of Windows Vista to solve this problem.

When a SATA hard disk on a Windows Vista-based computer is operating in Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA) mode, the computer may crash.

Please note, if you have a single boot system running with SATA HDD, its always recommended not to emulate the SATA HDD operation mode to IDE. This is only for those who are willing to run under dual boot with pre Windows Vista OSes.
