IBM on recently announced the release of Lotus Symphony, a suite of free desktop applications based on the OpenOffice.org open-source product.
This is to many a sign that its an attempt to make a run at Rivals Microsoft Office system market share…. Read more..

Quick things to note are the draw backs,
Very High system requirementof the application, as it needs full one GB of RAM to run… Compare that with Open Office which would run fine under 128 MB of RAM and even Office 2003 too… Its pretty odd to see such high requirement and who would run a free apps is expected to be low on budget and so low system configuration too like for example 3rd world education institutes or even Office computers…
Also the support for OS, No MAC, NO Windows Server or Windows 2000 support…
One can see its not fully compatible with MS office documents…
So when we have OpenOffice.org, why would one want to shift to Lotus Symphony ??
