Quick look at TATA Photon TV -> Wireless television streaming / broadcasting via TATA Photon+

TATA indicom becomes the first Indian ISP to offer live television streaming via its EVDO / HSIA wireless network. Recently TATAindicom has tied up with Apalya Technologies, a Hyderabad based company to launch the Photon TV service on Adobe Air platform.
TATAindicom is presently providing the CDMA 1x service in 22 states and has a large EDVO / HSIA network on most of the big cities.
How to get Photon TV
You may start the service by downloading the TV viewing tool. Which is around 17MB and available for free download.
Do take a note here, the Adobe Air run time given with this tool seems to be out dated as right after the installation, my adobe update center informed me that there is an updated version of Adobe Air run time available. Meaning another 10+MB of download.
Presently the application supports only Windows platform and I have tested and found it working with XP (x64) / Vista (x64) and Win 7 (x64).

Daemon Tools (Free / Paid)
Daemon tools is one of the oldest and widely used software in this category. There are 2 versions of this product available, as both free and paid-ware. Supports Windows XP / Vista / 7 (x64/x86).
Since the time they have started to sell a paid copy of the product, the free version has started to pack some bloatware like browser tool bars and certain add-ons. However you would be presented with options under custom installation to install the software without these add-ons. Where as the paid versions allows you to create 32 virtual drives supporting Blue-Ray also.

Microsoft ZUNE 4.0 (Software upgrade for your old ZUNE)

Microsoft have released an upgrade to its ZUNE player management and PC sync software. The ZUNE 4.0 comes with new features to help you discover more entertainment to enjoy anytime, anywhere. Also is comes with a free 14-day Zune Pass to browse, stream, and download millions of songs.
So lets take a look as whats new about this upgrade.
The ZUNE 4.0 is available as free download from Zune.net. It supports both 32bit (x86) and 64bit (x64) version of Windows. Make sure you download the right version for you as there are different version for Zune on x86 and Zune on x64.

Within few hours of launching of the source code, some folks got it compiled and few managed to release a working running copy of The Google Chrome OS as VMware file.
The copy (Google Chrome OS) is available as free download @ GDGT and you need to have VMware installed to virtualize it.
Windows 7 goes RTM (Release to Manufacturing)

Microsoft has achieved a milestone today for Windows 7 by pushing it to RTM stage. The company has already started to ship the products to the OEM partners and by October 22, we would be able to find the OS at our nearest store.
Microsoft would continue to distribute the RC (Release Candidate) via the official download location and users can continue to obtain the product key for free. The download would be available till August 20, where as Microsoft would continue to provide RC keys till March 2010.
An important thing is noticeable in this announcement that although the retail copy is going to be out by October 2009 but the RC product (CD) key distribution would continue till March 2010. Meaning, indirectly acting as a demo version of the OS.
Mean while, reports suggest that crackers / pirates have already cracked and validated a pirated RTM copy of Windows 7, even before it can come out to the public.
Windows Live Movie Maker trial extender

Those who have Windows Live Movie Maker installed, must note that present version of the product has expired on Jun 30, 2009. If you try to run the program, it would give you an error informing about the reason and would shut off.
“This trial version of Windows Live Movie Maker Beta has expired. Would you like to see if there is a new version available?”
Microsoft has issued an (2.8MB) update to counter the issue. The update is meant to extend the trial period till December 30, 2009.
The update is available for download free.

Wolrd’s smallest CD / DVD burning tool -> NCH Express Burn Plus

Its been like a monopoly for Ahead with their burning application NERO. It has almost become one of the must install application for many PC users since it comes bundled with almost all major DVD / CD burners !!
However Nero is an expensive software and under many cases, the new version’s of this product has become quite large in size and heavy on system resource consumption.
In search for alternative, I have already taken a quick loot at Ashampoo burning studio but recently I have found another grate application, which must be the smallest burning tool I have ever seen with size of just 390kb.
Quick look at NCH Express Burn Plus
At 390kb, the NCH express burn plus probably is the world’s smallest burning application. Compare to NERO at USD 80, its half the price and almost 1000 times smaller in size.. Unlike Nero you don’t get any bloatware either to eat your hard drive space and consume valuable system resources.

IE8 final released, now available for Download

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 is now released to its final versi0n. Download links are as follows,
One can also visit Microsoft Windows update service to obtain the product, which is expected to be available by 3rd weak of April under auto update delivery system.
With browser compatibility feature, IE8 is certainly performing much faster than IE7 and comparable to alternate browsers like FireFox / Opera.
Adobe releases Flash Player 10

Don’t forget to update your flash player version as Adobe have just released the Flash Player 10. Its about 2 MB in download for IE where as another 2 MB is required for alternate browsers, like Opera / Mozilla / FireFox.
So what’s new about this version ?
Well, as Adobe says, one would need to get Adobe Flash Player 10 to view the feature tour.

Google Chrome – New web browser from Google

Google Chrome, a browser from those who are known to give big hits to the web industry. Google Chrome, an open source web browser which promises to give what our favorites are not delivering. We have seen the development and market penetration of Mozilla FireFox over Microsoft Internet Explorer and now we are having another new and promising browser entering the market.
Though many feels the product is more like Mozilla Code (FireFox family) but actually its lot more closer to Apple’s Safari browser.
Let’s learn more about this new browser Chrome,
Simple Interface : Clean and simple interface, within a second you can understand that Google has assigned all available space for the work pane, hence your work area by default is the largest in all available browser.
The product is very simple to use for both end customers. For example Internet Explorer and also it (the interface) never makes you feel uncomfortable if you are a Safari or FireFox user.
Personally I am really happy to see that importance is given in the work pane. Just one problem which personally I am facing with higher resolution is the gap between the the Refresh and Go button !! It takes a lot of mouse movement if you are using 1440×900 or higher resolution to swap between GO and REFRESH buttons.
How to burn / write a bootable Windows XP installation CD ROM

Once you have successfully slipstreamed a service pack under Windows XP installation source, the next question which comes to your mind is how do you burn / write those installation files under a boot-able CD ROM so that you may boot with it and install your copy of Windows XP. This bellow article would try to provide a step by step guide on How to burn / write a bootable Windows XP installation CD ROM.
Prerequisite
- A PC with CD-RW drive
- One 700 MB CD-R (blank) media
- Windows OS
- Nero burning ROM
- Complete Windows XP installation Files
- Windows XP Boot image
How do your create a boot-able CD Media ?
Please start the Nero burning rom application and select CD-ROM (Boot) as what you wish to burn and please provide the path of Windows XP Boot image (you may download it from here, or use Bart’s Boot Image Extractor)
In the advance option, please make sure you select Kind of Emulation as No Emulation, and Boot Message should be as Microsoft Corporation where as the value of Number of load sectors is suppose to be 4. Rest all should stay default.
