Android versions and its market share

It’s been 4 months since Google has launched it’s latest version of Android mobile operating system, the android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich !!

However as per google’s own data, although many device manufacturers are offering upgrade to their existing devices by default and more and more 4.0 based cheapest ever devices like tablet and phones coming into the market, but still, surprisingly it’s android 2.3 or the Gingerbread is what having the most market share.

With android 5.0 on its way in next six month, one can only guess that Gingerbread may be turning into the success story of Windows XP as per market share is concerned !!

How to install android 4.0 ice cream sandwich to Sony Xperia Play

The bad news is, Sony smart phone development team has confirmed that they wont be bringing the ice cream sandwich update / upgrade (android 4.0) to Sony XPeria Play device.

In regards to Xperia PLAY, after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich – therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia PLAY. – Sony smart phone Blog

How ever, as always with android, you get the chance to root the device and treat it like a PC where you get to chose what OS you install hence even with XPeria play also there are many 3rd party options to let you install the latest android update / upgrade, namely ice cream sandwich (Android 4.0).

Android app to rival Siri gets developed within 8 hours

The journey of one of the main feature of iPhone 4S, the Apple Siri, is not smooth at all.

Within days of it’s launch, the Siri system ran into problem with server issue and within week of its launch, the rival Microsoft demonstrated their version of the service with Microsoft Windows phone application Microsoft TellMe.

And now, add to that, a group of Android developers built a Siri like application for android platform within 8 hours of development time. The app, which is called Iris is now available to all via android market place.
