Indian Railways online booking system and its challanges

Since the launch of online ticket booking facility of Indian Railways via its IRCTC service, the service gradually took off with India’s expanding domestic internet infrastructure. However railways are not been able to keep pace with the rapid growth in internet traffic towards their service.

A report from railways suggest that on average 35 to 37 lakhs booking fails every month with many users reporting money been deducted by IRCTC without completing the booking process with various reasons. Most common reason for booking failure is operation timing out, largely due to over loaded servers of IRCTC.

Pradeep Kundu, spokesman for the IRCTC said “At one point in time, we used to receive eight to nine lakh concurrent hits during peak hour”. He also blamed poor internet connectivity of users end along with Banking payment getway faults in explanation of payment deduction without successful booking.

Indian Railways had previously upgraded their server infrastructure however it seems that didn’t help much and while Puja / Dashera vacations are approaching, one can only expect to see more problems for users trying to book their tickets online

Uninor telecom service is out of order since 12.30 PM IST

The day after TRAI and DoT announced the new license fee rates for 2G spectrum in India, it seems the worst effected telecom company, the Uninor has halted / shuts down its service without any notification to its employee or to its customers.

Its still not confirmed, all Uninor customers from across India is unable to access the telecom service.

Uninor is out of service and Uninor mobile phones are not accessing the network as from August 04, 2012 12PM IST.

Notably, the cancelled license for their 2G operation was valid till September 07, 2012 but company sources did expressed their desire to sell of their hardware and network assets well before to attempt and recover the portion of their lost Investment.

Unfair to most of the customers since none of them are given the chance to utilize the MNP feature to shift to other operators. It would be inresting to see if TRAI can inter-vain and help users to retain their stopped Uninor numbers.

Update (22:00 IST)

Its been 10 hours since Uninor outage started, only roumors are circulating for the fate of so many million subscribers. No official words are out yet for the reason of outage or fate of the company.

Their website http://uninor.in is also out of order since the crisis started, not even their customer relationship “Uninor” stores are able to provide any information on the situation.

Call center numbers are unreachable and words are contradictory from the customer care or relationship management stores called Uninor Store. They them self seems to be in complete dark about the cause of this massive national wide service outage.

Update (00.30 AM August 05, 2012)

Almost after 12 hours since the initial crisis with Uninor network started, it seems the users are now able to access Uninor network in their phones but no out going or incoming calls and SMS is possible with message of network congestion.

The call center numbers are not reachable due to the same reason and their official website is still down hence no official explanation on the reason for this 12 hours of horror on the day when two parental owner companies, Unitech and Telnor, is locked into a legal battle for the future of their child Uninor.

Chennai Fuel crisis – How vulnerable we are

Times of India – Those with petrol vehicles continued to brave the 41-degrees heat for a couple of litres of the fuel. “I stood in a queue at a pump in Nungambakkam from 6am to 9.30am, and finally got two litres for my bike,” said V K Santhanam, an insurance agent.

Is this 2012, end of world, Armageddon ?

Chennai (India) residence and businesses learns how vulnerable we actually are with fossil fuel. The entire cities life style, work culture goes hey-wire within couple of days of shortage of fossil fuel. There is no backup plan, and there can never be any since its the only thing which we have not been able to replace with.

India imports its 80% of fossil fuel from countries which are not in control of it or have no strong ties at all. Just imagine how tough the situation would be if West stops the flow via their controlled oil field to India. Already we see though IRAN want’s to sell oil to India at a really cheap rate but Congress Government going US way to sever tie with IRAN and make the burden pass on to common Citizen.

It just makes me think, War of oil fought by US and west is so justified since their citizens will never have to face this type of hell what Chennai people are now going through.

Am I wrong ??

21st century freedom fighting -> YesScotland.net

There will be a lot of debate as whether its needed or not since if looking into the lifestyle and living standard of the Scottish people, they would be placed in top 5 places of world (economic) to be in so why detaching from a system which gives you all the rights you need and off course the respect and power you deserve to decide for your self.

However being an Indian, I should not be the one questioning the right to demand what they are demanding since my ancestors also fought a bloody war for independence with British regime for 200 years to get India free.

Having said that, I would also add, this present system of Indian freedom didn’t quite go as planned by those who fought for independence from British. Freedom did come but came with some heavy price, problem of its own. No, I am not saying same is what may happen there in Scotland, but debate is when they are living far better than 99% of people of the world along with head held high in respect, do they really need to break away from the present system.

Is it really better for ScotLand or just for few people wanting some unnecessary power ?

What is interesting is to compare the movement what we have read in history and this one, which is now unfolding in front of our eyes. The 21st century way of freedom fighting.

Legitimacy and morality of prostitution

Yes, it’s a Taboo.

One of the biggest one for most of the family around the world but one very alarming factor which is driving serious crimes like human trafficking and sex slave business with violation of basic human rights.

No, I am no expert of the topic but just sharing my view after I stumble upon few facts which I felt should be discussed openly to stop some of the worst crimes of the world.

Myths and Facts

Most of us think that the subject it self is illegal but surprisingly as per law, many many countries allow it legally but very few actually has law for regulation and control of the practice properly and safely.

Above two links should give us enough glimpse about the picture where world wide, law makers understand and accept prostitution as a labor practice but very very few country actually bring the practice under proper and control regulated service.

The idea of Black Box came to his mind in early 50′s when he was asked to help the investigation of an air (Commet) crash and it was mid 50′s when he came up with a prototype Black Box. But it was early 60′s when the world’s aviation industry started to make it a mandate for all commercial air craft to install the device.
