Problem with Windows 7 USB / DVD tool (Error : Not a valid ISO file)

Windows 7 is sold online (as download) more than any other previous version of Windows. Microsoft Store provides download option as ISO image of Windows 7 installation disc to the customers. Many of them calls back MS with question about how to use the ISO for installation purpose.

Recently, Microsoft released a tool, Windows 7 USB / DVD download tool, to help users to create bootable DVD or USB drive to boot and install Windows 7. However the said tool only works with ISO file given by Microsoft store. The Windows 7 USB / DVD download tool returns error “The selected file is not a valid ISO file. Please select a valid ISO file and try again” when a user tries to use ISO file downloaded or made from other source (vLite / Windows 7 AIK).

How to solve the error “The selected file is not a valid ISO file. Please select a valid ISO file and try again” of Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool ?

Download this tool -> By WithinWindows.com

It contains an EXE file named isoavdpcopy.exe. Place this EXE file in the directory / folder where you have your Windows 7 ISO image.

Now please open Command prompt and navigate to the said folder / directory to run the below command,

  • isoavdpcopy.exe <your_iso_file_name.iso>

It should make your own (Custom / vLite / AIK / copy from installation disc) Windows 7 ISO image file usable with Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool.

    ERROR: Specified ISO is read-only.
[How do I solve this problem ?]

1- right click, go to properties, and check if the file is read only.

2- put the extension .iso at the end
    eg: (iso name).iso
