Inventor of the Black Box dies..

Dr. David Warren is no more. The Australian scientist, who changed the aviation industry with his invention of Black Box died this Monday (July 19) at the age of 85.

The idea of Black Box came to his mind in early 50′s when he was asked to help the investigation of an air (Commet) crash and it was mid 50′s when he came up with a prototype Black Box. But it was early 60′s when the world’s aviation industry started to make it a mandate for all commercial air craft to install the device.

What is a Black Box ?

Typically situated in the tail of a plane, unlike its name, a pair of shiny but extremely tough RED BOX is something called Black Box. It has two parts,

  1. The cockpit voice recorder.
  2. Flight Data Recorder.

This devices is so well built that it can survive the worst crashes. They record the in flight data, which helps investigators to pin point the cause of an accident.
