Reliance launching EVDO service in India

There is been roomers and talks, that, just like BSNL, Reliance is also preparing to launch their EVDO service for high speed mobile broadband. Till date Reliance have not made any official statement about the service launch.

However today, while I was searching for some driver update at Windows update service for my EVDO modem of BSNL, I came to see that MS Windows update service does list driver for specific Reliance CDMA EVDO device.

Windows update listing EDVO Modem ZTE AC8700 800M drivers for Reliance

It seems ZTE would also be supplying to Reliance and same models also.

Update :-

As its turns out, Reliance has launched the service. There are 2 device options from ZTE (almost same as BSNL) and Huawei.

huawei-ec168c-bbOne may take a look at service plans at Reliance Netconnect web site. It is claimed that with upto 3.1 mbps, reliance is the fastest EVDO service provider along with largest EVDO covarage but as always with Reliance, there must be something out of order, and there is. It seems their Unlimited plans are just a straight lie. The word unlimited to reliance means 10 GB as all their unlimited plans comes with 10 GB data transfer limit and after which they will charge you Rs. 2/- per MB.

I’m using a ZTE Black model of BSNL EVDO. Sometimes(2/3hhours in a week) I get good speed upto 35KBps, but most of the time it just not acceptable. Connection is also not reliable, it disconnects frequently.

So what I conclude is, all the wireless connections are not good, neither BSNL nor Reliance.

Do you think this services will ever improve?

It is hard to say as when BSNL service would improve or such.

BSNL has the best price offering with the only one having unlimited plans.

But since BSNL is now heavily investing in to 3G (GSM) domain, its hard to imagine that they would improve the CDMA along side.

TATA Photon is good so is Reliance with both having more City under their high speed network but in both case you pay for what you use as none of them is offering any unlimited plans..

I’d say BSNL EVDO is a much better choice, sadly it isn’t widely available.

And hey Saurav, new theme looks nice!

    Hi,

Reliance always advertises a lot about many big things but as already said, too many hidden Terms and in the ned service is also not that good either !!

    Thanks.

O thank god, my reliance wimax connection is not in Fair Usage Policy. I called up customer care today, and they assured that no FUP in my scheme. Thank god.

Reliance wireless net connection is a joke!

I am using the ZTE Black model since almost a year now. I have taken it simply due to lack of options. I use it only when I go out of town. I can at least check my emails, even though a 2 KB mail takes 2 mins to download. Their adverts claim speeds “upto 144Kbps”. I have NEVER got even 14 Kbps. I have tried it at various time of the day from early-mornings to mid-night. It sucks uniformly all thru the day!

I really have no hopes from this new offering as well! Reliance offers are full of hidden costs and “conditions”.

“Offer valid for 1st 1 lakh customers” LOL.

Offer available only online! Yeah right! I saw a better rate at one of their stores today. So probably this higher rate is only for those first 1 lakh customers that buy it online!
