Baseless attacks on the IQ of the contributor is not the same as pointing out some flaw in their argument. Yes, installing pirated software in any OS is asking for trouble. But there have been a great many vulnerabilities in windows which does not require someone to explicitly download and install software from an untrusted source. So even if you don’t pirate windows, and don’t install pirated windows software, you are still at significant risk of being infected. This (so far) is not true on OS X. The average hack time for a windows pc on an open network (static ip, no firewall) is 2 minutes. This (so far) is not true on OS X. Windows 7 is a significant improvement, and kudos to microsoft for working hard to fight back the storm of windows malware, but for now I’d rather work and play elsewhere with an absurdly better track record.

Not only bit torrent or p2p, any time when you download a pirated software from any unauthorized source, you risk being infected with these malware.

As far as empathy, how bad would you feel if a burglar cut their hand breaking a window to steal something from your home?

By the way, I use bit torrent and free software, but I torrent legal media from trusted root sources. I am a huge fan (and developer) of open source software, but believe in the right of creators of content to make their own assertions on who can use their stuff (with reasonable limitations—see “Lawrence Lessig” in wikipedia for someone with a rational bead on the future of creativity)

Well there is no reason you couldn’t get a virus on a Mac. More difficult (not half as lousy as Windows) and les common. Remember who came up with the first virus/backdoors? No?, check it.
Also if you pirate sowtware on bit torrents you are looking for it No?
