List of motherboard / mainboard for Intel Core i7 (Quad / Eight) processors with support of LGA 1366

Intel Core i7 (45nm) LGA 1366 Intel Core i7 eXtreme (45nm) LGA 1366

The first batch of Nehalem platform based processors are now in retail market. Few major changes since the launch of Core 2 range CPUs back in 2006.

  • Introduction Socket LGA 1366 by replacing the LGA 775, which is running since 2004 with support for wide range of processors, including Pentium 4 / Pentium D / Dual Core / Core 2 Duo / Quad / Extreme.
  • Only supports DDR3.
  • Support for Triple channel DDR-III (1600 / 1333 / 1066 / 800 FSB)
  • Support for Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (Though it was phased out with Core2 range however Intel has brought it back with its 45nm Core i7 CPU).

As of now, there is only one chip-set which supports the LGA 1366 Core i7 processors, that is Intel x58 Express chipset.

Can Core 2 (Duo / Quad) be used with x58 (Core i7) motherboard ?

Please note, Intel’s present range of 65nm and 45nm Core 2 (Quad / Duo / eXtreme) CPU comes for socket 775 where as the new 45nm Core i7 processors are in LGA 1366 socket, hence you cant upgrade the present core 2 setup to Core i7 or use Core 2 CPU with x58 motherboard.

I shall try and keep the post up-to-date as more brands and model comes in. Feel free to drop in comment as if I have missed any.

Nothing seems to be easier than seeing someone whom you can help but not helping.
I suggest we start giving it a try. Give love to the ones that need it.
    God will appreciate it.

Lets see if I can get hold of this new Phenom II 45nm AMD CPU or not.

However rest assure, though AMD now have their own 45nm, Intel is ready get their 32nm version of Core i7 out..

Still AMD is always welcome for budget system..

    Thanks.
