This is a rare incident to occur with me, that I come back empty handed when I have went to purchase some thing.

Todays aim was to purchase the best available Digital Camera (Digi Cam) under budget Rs. 10000 to Rs. 15000 (USD 200 – USD 300) from any vendor, like Sony Cybershot / Canon Powershot / Nikon Coolpix or even Kodak.

There are plenty of models available under this budget, some of the widely used models are,

Canon SX 100 IS – Price @ Rs. 10000/- (USD 200)

Canon A720 IS – Price @ Rs. 7500/- (USD 170)

Canon S5 IS – Price @ Rs. 14500/- (USD 320)

Nikon Coolpix P5100 – Price @ Rs.12500/- (USD 270)

Nikon Coolpix P50 – Price @ Rs. 8000/- (USD 190)

Nikon coolpix S550 – Price @ Rs. 10000/- (USD 190)

So what has went wrong ?

Our vendor is kind enough to allow us to play with the device, kind of try before you buy approach !! So though I am no where close to an expert in term of photography and camera  review but even with my naked eye, I felt very disappointed after clicking few pictures with all these above mentioned models.

On paper, all of them have great image sensor / super cool lenses and all that crap, how ever in reality none of them are even close to beat the image quality of a 5 MP older model Cam like Nikon 5200. Few months back I have seen Nikon S51C @ Rs. 9000/-, and purchased one, which looked me to once again an logical option with 8 MP sensor, where as seems Nikon has discontinued that product also.

I am quite surprise to see that a camera in range of Rs. 15k, which is considered to be make shift replacement of a low end DSLR, such as canon s5 is is also not able to take better picture than Nikon S51c !!!

Unfortunately, I am forced to stop my self from purchasing a model as all seems to be waste of money, if you have to buy some thing under this budget then it should be either Black models of A720 IS or Nikon P5100 however which is bit costlier than available other options.

White body of these product (A720 IS) are made in china, once again a very disappointed performance compare to the Black body of A720 IS which are available as Made in Japan).

To obtain more details about the available models, please visit Nikon or Canon web site.

P.S

Some may wonder why not Sony / Kodak is been considered in my list ?

Well, personally I never like sony product as they seem more show off rather than performance, and really over priced !! Same with Kodak however I have given few of their models a try also, but hard to get Kodak without paper hence, price is really an issue as it would be far better to spend Rs. 23000/- for Nikon DSLR D60 rather than buying a Kodak digi cam at Rs. 19000/-
