this is for those who are like me, penny scrooge, even a penny matters.
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/index.html
scroll down to mencoder and encoding techniques. yup agree vlc is nice. i sometime use vlc and vls to broadcast video streams, but this is for those scrooges (miser) (kanjoos:hindi) :-D and linux/bsd folks who will want the best by paying no penny. read up. near the end somewhere you will find encoding techniques. and this happens by the magic tool called mencoder and there in "help/faq/doc/tools" you got a shell script which if you run? you may convert all most all videos including flv videos from yahoo/google/youtube into DVD/DVD5. if you mean dvd then get dvdauthor else for vcd (VCD1/2, svcd, kvcd) vcdima?er check with the rest of the doc. its lengthy and tedious. and i got one machine with xp loaded and i will try to download XP's powershell v1 and will try to port the codes from bash (./) to powershell commandlets.
links and sub-direct links.

@kamlesh: it all matters on whats your processing speed and also whats your GPU speed, the faster these 2 are better the speed and also better quality. and lastly? you are trying to convert from one form to another? so "PLEASE BE PATIENT." and dvd to divx can be of varying bitrates and other many permutations and combinations depending on dvd type and region and frame rate. hope this helps kamlesh. good luck!

HI, if MPEG4 to.VOB is the need then use Avitodvd, DVDX,FAIRUSEwizered all are free and nice. If .Dat is the need then make mpeg4 video file to mpg with say mediacoder and burn with nero as vcd.
Secondly if you want to put 2hrs of near DVD quality video on a 700MB disc or 6hrs of near VCD quality video on a single 80 minute CD or 6 hours Full Dvd quality video of res 720x480 or about 10 hours at Half D-1 352x480 on one single DVD(both are playable with standalone players)then make 'KVCD' Or 'KDVD' with TMPEG,free. And of course the KVCD or KDVDs are not for PC playback, means u don't like the quality,u better need then mpeg4,but the quality will be amazing on hardware players. Try googling.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I have a movie that the picture and sound are perfect except that the audio is off by about 5 seconds, very annoying!
Any suggestions on what I can do in order to fix it or will Nero fix it all at the burn stage.
