Block the auto download of Windows Service Pack

As we prepare for Windows Vista SP1 which is due to come to Public Beta tomorrow and Windows XP SP3 which is now under RC1 stage and due to some time next year, Microsoft released the Service Pack blocker tool kit…

What is it ??

Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit is a small twick to your OS to make sure you continue to get Windows update but do not download the large Service Pack… So it gives you the option to keep the Auto update on and continuing to download the priority updates where as it avoid the download of the Service Pack until you wish to install the under your system…

A very useful tool for all large organisation running on Windows Platform…

GigaSmilies Smile set for Bullietine board fourms

One little but useful application is GigaSmilies, its an application which would help you to add Yahoo Messenger like Emoticons (smiles) under your forum posts…

A Small download of 350KB EXE file…

GigaSmiles

What it does is when you click a smile on the program window it copies a test in your clipboard… All the smiles you see is hosted at the software developers web site, so as you have clicked a smile, it would copy a bb code, eg “[img]http://www.site.com/smile_no.gif[/img]“ which you can paste at your reply field of any forum which you are using, so when you post the reply message the message now will display the image or rather smile :)

A nice application, how ever I would wish you can have more animated smile just not the yahoo ones !!

Troubleshoot PC / MAC problems via computer start up beeps

When you start your computer you may hear a beep and after which the CPU boots in to the BIOS and loads up your computer OS….

Before the PC / MAC can load up your OS, it will check the hardware via a self test and some time when your system encounters any Hardware post BIOS error, the computer singles its user via a series of BEEPs…

How do you under stand the meaning of those beeps ??

Originally the process was implemented by IBM on their IBM systems, bellow is the original IBM beep codes… which you may refer as general trouble shooting guide…

1 short beep – Normal POST – system is OK
2 short beeps – POST error – error code shown on screen
No beep – Power supply, system board problem, or disconnected speaker
Continuous beep – Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem
Repeating short beeps – Power supply or system board problem or keyboard
1 long, 1 short beep – System board problem
1 long, 2 short beeps – Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA)
1 long, 3 short beeps – Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)
3 long beeps – 3270 keyboard card
