Hey mate,

It is a shared one only, I am having the reseller plan. My site is not so old that I will have to consider that much, actually when I started my blog that time I was not so aware from all these stuff so I purchased one reseller plan considering it's cheaper price, but from then I was facing lot's of stuff with them. Meanwhile I purchased a reseller plan from Hostgator and I was always looking to change the server, but I was having a bit of fear in my heart, but ultimately with the help of ur guide I got the success. Your site is really good and I liked it. I hope you are too from India, might be from Kolkata, yes I checked the whois. I was too there a few year back in Tollygunge.

Hello Alok,

Thank you for your comments and glad to know about your success !!

Seems that you are with HostGator, is it a dediacted box or with shared hosting !!

Just for discussion, I didnt have any luck with shared for this blog, because of higher visit count and bandwidth usage were forced to think for VPS !!

Thanks.

I dont think windows can run .htaccess mod :( for a WP installation you may need .htaccess for the plug in so, if you need a local copy I guess the local host should be on Linux platform :(

I wanted to make a local copy of my blog on my laptop. I have installedwordpress over wamp but I tried to do the restore as per your method . It does not work. I have installed some plugins because of that on my blog there are some tables which are created by those plugins.

I was about to say what Ashok said. Use backup + restore if you are moving from cPanel to cPanel. Far more convenient.

If it's other control panel, then of course you better follow the manual backup steps described above.

Instead of backing up data from phpmyadmin, you can use backup tab to backup database and files and restoring from new host control panel using backup tab. I generally find this easy then backing up from phpmyadmin
