BUG Find - Possible BUG with Nero 8 (Nero Vision) under Windows Vista
Recently I have been testing Nero 8 when I stumble upon this problem, which is now turning out to be a BUG…
While you are under Windows Vista x86 (I have not tried Windows Vista x64 though) any version (ultimate, home, business, or any), if you use Nero Vision 5 which comes with Nero 8, you may find it would stop responding if you try to burn a DVD-Video from a video file which is encoded with xvid or divx (MPEG4 / H264) codecs…
I am listing the exact process to recreate the action on your system… You may try and see if it is also happening at your end or not…
OS : Windows Vista (Without SP1) uptodate
Hardware : Any (in most case RAM was more than 1 GB)
Nero Version : 8.x (incl the latest 8.1.1.0b)
Problem : Nero vision crashes when you try to burn a xvid / divx (MPEG4 / H264) encoded video file as DVD video…
Open Nero Vision 5 (which comes with Nero 8)… Click Make DVD (DVD-Video)
On Next screen please click Add Video Files
Now please browse to add any xvid of divx (MPEG4 / H264) encoded video file like this one bellow…
Now as soon as you add the file, nero vision may crash with following errors,

and when you refer to Windows Event viewer you may find following type of Error message !!!
Faulting application NeroVision.exe, version 5.1.0.2, time stamp 0×46fa49f6, faulting module MSVCR80.dll, version 8.0.50727.762, time stamp 0×45712238, exception code 0xc000000d, fault offset 0×00008a8c, process id 0×8f8, application start time 0×01c814acf2c6a0b3.
So try your self and see if you are too are facing the same issue or not !!!

I’ve been experiencing the same problem. Except I don’t get the “Nerovision has stopped…” until the program has finished transcoding the 4 AVI’s that I have selected to burn. It looks like the error appears just before burning takes place.
I have had Nero 8 for a week and in this time I have burned a 29 episode season of AVI’s without issue, two days ago I began burning another season; the first disk completed, but everything I attempted to burn after failed…”nero vision has stopped working…blah blah blah…if anyone has any insight it would be very much appreciated.

I had the same problem occur after a windows update. I went into windows movie maker, tools, options, compatibility and disabled anything that had “nero” in the name. After I did this, Nero Vision 5 started working for me again.
Don’t know if this is helpful but it is worth a shot.

Same thing happened with me. I’ve been googling if there was a similar problem to mine and there was but I still can’t seem to find any threads for the solution. Any news about the bug being fixed?

Ran into the same problem with Nero Vision 4 (Nero 7) on Vista. The error didn’t occur if I right-clicked on the Nero Vision icon and chose “Run as administrator”. Give it a try.

I ran into the same problem a few days ago. I have Nero 7, Nero Vision 4 running on Vista. I uninstalled Nero and deleted every residue file that I could find. Then I reinstalled it, and disabled all the Nero files from Window Movie Maker - tools, options, compatibility - which CJ has suggested to do. This still did not work so then I tried to run Nero 7 from admistrator and this did the trick. Thanks omf!
I was not able to right click Nero from the desktop and run as administrator though. I had to go Start/Programs/NeroStartSmart (right click)/run as admin., and I was then able to burn 3 movies which were unburnable beforehand.

This has been happening since NeroVision 3 (I think it was 3 that I used 2+ years ago). I’m guessing its more of an issue with codecs installed on a system than with Nero, but I dont have any proof of this… trying the “Run As Administrator” now to see if it helps, but I doubt it will since I have UAC disabled and am already an administrator. Turned off the Nero related compatibility options in Windows Movie Maker as well to see if it will help… keeping my fingers crosses! I have 2 of 4 Video DVDs encoded just fine. The first two DVDs were MPEG4 videos off a Casio Digital Camera. The last two DVDs are a mixture of MPEG4 vids off the same Casio camera and also tons of vids from a Sony camera that uses crappy MJPG (Motion-JPEG) video. I’m guessing its the Sony vids that is causing the problem since the Casio’s MPEG4 vids worked just fine in the first 4 DVDs! GRRRR… Gotta have this ready for Xmas Eve!

I have the same problem with Nero Vision 4/Nero 7 (latest v. 7.10). While trying to convert avi to dvd using vision vista would crash and I’d get the BSOD. I tried using Convertxtodvd but I would get alot of sync issues when using the vob files in Vision 4. So I didall of the following: Dl and installed klite mega codec pack 3.6.2. then I went into Windows Movie Maker TOOLS, OPTIONS, COMPATABILITY and unchecked anytinh attached to Nero/Ahead. NOTE!!!! I did this 5 times after hitting O.K. more codecs kept poping up. Then ran Nero Start Smart as admin. And there you have it I’m now 4 and 0 with no crash no BSOD and no more sync issues. Hope this helps and thanks to all!!!

yeh, i had the same problem, just bought nero 8. I called the technical support and the tech guy told me that they did that on purpose!! So apparently if youre trying to burn any dvds the system will crash because they are blocking copywrited material. So basically I just paid over a hundred bucks for nothing. DO NOT BUY NERO!!

This is pretty strange reply from them… !! as just for test, some one please ask then to transfer miviDV video from your handy cam to your HDD… then use AutoGK to compress that in 700 MB xvid…
As of now in this process there are nothing illegal… but when u try to burn that xvid (your own video) still nero vision 5 ( nero 8 ) will crash !!!
So why this would happen ?? I tried my best over this time to comunicate with Nero MVPs and most of them seems to have Nero 7.10 running and those who run Nero 8 says even they, them self face any such problem, they assume it is a Codec issue…
Thank you all for the reply, but i tested in many different setup, under any, Nero 8 (Nero Vision 5) ever worked :(, same prolem every where when it comes to Burning xvid / divx (AVI) to DVD or VCD !!!!
Just un-install Nero 8, and install Nero 7 (up to nero 7.10) and you can use nero vision 4 with no problem what so ever !!!

I have been trying to transcode and burn to a HD-folder, a home DVD video with 6 menus linking to some videos and a slideshow-movie.. All material from my HP digital camera.
After 2 hours or so, Nero Vision never finished burning the DVD and returned to NeroStartSmart ))- Tested twice with same results!!
I’ve a P4 2,8Ghz with 1G RAM with the latest KLcodecs megapack.
Two days ago, I have reinstalled WIN XP sp2 (with all updates) then I installed & updated Nero Vision to 5.2.7.0
-just in case- and tried again!! The crash again occurs…
I say: Damn lame programm / Nero 8 sucks bigtime!!

This is disgusting! I carefully monitored what happens during this problem. Nerovision 4 or earlier works great. Ram memory usage averages 80 to 120 mb of ram. Creeps up to 120 while loading a transition but dumps the memory and lowers to 80 right after.
Nerovision 5 looks great but when you watch your task manager processes, you see nerovision.exe using more and more Ram memory. It never dumps the memory! It just continues climbing until nerovision crashes after it consumes 80% of your Ram memory. All we would need is some kind of hack to make Nerovision dump it’s memory while encoding. It never makes it to the ‘burn’ process. I’m using two 3 gig processors for 6000+, 3 gigs of Ram.

I forgot to mention, nerovision.exe was using just under 2 gigs of ram before freezing up. What a load of junk software. I’m using nero 6 again which works fine under XP. I’m not about to spend more money now on Nero 7 after wasting every dollar I spent on Nero 8.

Back once more, after installing Ace Mega Codecs Pack. Now I’m encoding a DVD from an AVI file using nerovision 5 under vista. It’s using 45% of my RAM but it’s WORKING. Before, I remember seeing the background video going crazy like fast forward. Now, it’s back to normal speed seems to function normal again. Lemme get a link for you all:
http://www.free-codecs.com/ACE_Mega_CoDecS_Pack_download.htm
It works with Vista and makes Nerovision 5 work.

When I purchased Nero 8 and installed it, it originally worked to transcode a MPG to DVD. Now it shows no video but solid audio. Is this the same problem others have been having?

I have sort of the same problem as Paul Allen, Nero Vision will not transcode video from an xvid file, just audio. I am running Nero Vision 5.3.3.0 on Vista Ultimate x64 with more than adequate hardware. I have tried different codec packs, including ACE. Any thoughts?

I also had the same problem on Nerovision 5 with Nero8. Easiest way to resolve it is once open Nerovision, go to More…Video options and select one of the options (eg PAL)…thats it.

It’s simple just set the video setting (click the more button and the video option) to either NTSC or PAL before you adding the video files to your project.
Now try adding your video files and it will not give any error
