Difference Between Intel core 2 duo vs Intel dual core vs Intel Pentium D
Many people are confused what exactly the difference between Intel Core 2 Duo and Between Intel Pentium D or Intel Dual Core processors….
I would try to explain from a END user point a view rather not going in to details architecture over view…
The Simple facts are,
All Core 2 Duo Processors are Dual Core Processors..
All Pentium D Processors are Dual Core Processors..
All Intel Dual Core Processors are Dual Core Processors…
Pentium D is nothing but 2 Prescott Processors side by side… runs very hot, not a good OverClocker…
Intel Core 2 Duo processors are next gen processors from Intel on 65 nm platform… developed from Ground up with new Architecture called Core… so they are whole new Processors just Jump like Pentium 2 to Pentium 3 or Pentium 4… Expect one Core 2 Duo Lowest End Processors like E4400/E4300 taking up and beating Intel Pentium D 3.8 GHz ones with ease 
… runs damn cool and super over clocker…
Intel Dual Core Processors are just launched striped down version of Core 2 Duos.. there are 2 in Market for Desktop range, E2140 runs at 1.6 GHz with 1 MB L2 and 800 MHz FSB and E2160 with 1.8 GHz with same specs of E2140…. these are not Pentium D rather they are same batch like Core 2 Duo based on the new Core Technology…. they perform same like Core 2 Duos but they were launched with a very low price to counter the market of super low cost but high performer AMD X2 range line up to AMD X2 4000….

i’m using core2duo E7400, combined with 4GB Corsair gaming RAM and Nvidia 9600GT 512GB and i swear that i’m never,never,never,never,never get stuck,hang or low performance almost 2years!
even i’m running NeedForStrtShift,C&C TiberiumWar,GTA 4, browser in FireFox,and listen music from MediaPlayer IN A SAME TIME!!,
i think the CPU cooling must efficiency and the differ from c2Duo,Dual-Core is nothing!
it’ll giving you a great and stable performance when it in a low temperature..
OR you can OVERCLOCKING your cpu by reaching TRIPLE performance!
my c2Duo is expected on 2.53GHz and i OVERCLOKING that damned cool cpu to 4.00GHz!!!
try it at u’r own risk!

I think the difference is in the cache memory.
both have two cores. Core 2 duo has more cache memory than dual Core.
Core 2 duo is better than dual core.
A dual-core processor contains two cores, and a quad-core processor contains four cores. A multi-core processor implements multiprocessing in a single physical package. Cores in a multi-core device may be coupled together tightly or loosely. For example, cores may or may not share caches, and they may implement message passing or shared memory inter-core communication methods. Common network topologies to interconnect cores include: bus, ring, 2-dimensional mesh, and crossbar. All cores are identical in homogeneous multi-core systems and they are not identical in heterogeneous multi-core systems. Just as with single-processor systems, cores in multi-core systems may implement architectures such as superscalar, VLIW, vector processing, SIMD, or multithreading.

core2 duo has two cpu’s where as dual core has two cores and single cpu..the two cores can be on single chip die or can be on different die within single chip package….
the two processor can share buses..topologies…
caches..etc
the two processor in core2 duo is like if one processor is executing memory or code then other can simultaneously use the bus or cache in extracting the data..

satbest is wrong there……in fact there is nothing like having two processors of speed 1.73ghz will get doubled and will get to nearly 3.46ghz. this is trully wrong….as consider that if one processor have speed 3ghz then it doesnt mean tht speed will be 6ghz. haha its like there is processor of speed more than wht is manufactured.
rather dual core and core2 duo has different effficiency not depending upon clocks per cycle…
core 2 duo is intel brand…where as dual core is AMD or intel..
moreover if there is multitasking and multithreading then only u can see that core2duo will do more work in same amount of time as for dual core…bt for the single threaded system both will do the same work in same amount of time..
more likely there cant be com[parison between different cpu’s as the total efficiency depends upon individuAL modules performance..as if one cpu has faster rate of I/o..where as other one has greater file handling..
CORE2 DUO also has LARGER CACHE MEMORY than DUAL CORE..which in turn enhances the speed..

@ satdabest…. u are absolutely wrong.
even u have core 2 duo, let say 3.0ghz. you said that it will double the speed to 6.0ghz? wtf!!!! absolutely not, this is very simple logic. one core speed is 3,0ghz and the other one is 3.0ghz. these frequency will not be doubled as just what you said, instead, they will work as a different core on a specific task. like multitasking. they work different task so that the processing task will be half the time.
and take note pentium dual core and core 2 duo’s are both dual core proc. core2 duo only takes advantage because it has more cache than a pentium dual core thats it. there is no conspiracy involved here.

Hello guys…….
I think you people are pretty confused about the difference between Intel Core2Duo and Intel Pentium Dual-core . I will try to clear this –
Both are built on the same CORE microarchitecture . Pentium Dual-core is nothing but a mainstream version of Core2Duo .
Lets compare 2 processors side by side . Consider Pentium Dual-core E5XXX and Core2Duo E7XXX . Both are 45nm processors but the difference is in the clock speed and FSB .
You’ll get a 1066MHZ FSB in C2D but an 800MHZ PDC and 3MB L2 cache in C2D whereas a 2MB L2 cache in PDC .
Both are easily overclockable and runs super cool even while OCed….. If you are looking to buy a decent processor for light gaming I’d prefer you to buy PDC E5200 and spend the saved money on a better graphics card .

dual core has got one processor…. i,e one execution but two buses which are connected to execution point….1+exe and 1+exe i,e y it is called dual core…

never buy dual-core Processors cuz intel try 2 trick u in thinking it has a double CPU inside for example if u hav a 1.73 GHz processor a consumer will think the overall CPU will be 1.73 x2 cuz it say’s dual-core but this is wrong dual-core just a brand name. however, on the other hand core 2 duo has two CPU’s build in side by side so if it is 1.73 GHz you hav to times 1.73 by two so it will become 3.46 GHz overall and that is fast and a gud CPU. therefore, don’t be tricked in buying dual-core cuz u think it has a double CPU in it which it has NOT instead buy core 2 duo cuz that has a double CPU inside.

What kind of performance differences can we expect to see between the Core 2 Duo and the Dual Core? And where to the quad cores come into play?
