Core 2 Duo or AMD X2 ??

At this point of the time I am really short on Budget !! I have to save for my plan for Education USA, but my computer which is a AMD 2600 XP runs with a 512MB RAM is really giving me problem !!I need to upgreade where as My budget is very short, just a maximum of 20k (Rs. 20,000/-), I plan to buy a Processor, Motherboard, and RAM !!

There are 2 choices infront of my, a Low end Core 2 Duo or a Medium range AMD X2, e6300 with a G946 based mobo, or a AMD X2 4400 with M2N-E mobo !! Both case I would think for a 1Gb of DDR2.

Core 2 Duo will come with 2MB L2 with 1.86 GHz where as X2 will have 2.2GHz and 1MB L2 !!

I preffer AMD but where ever I dicsuss suggestion comes to go with Core 2 Duo !! :(

Hey, this is very nice site that you have got. Keep up the work.

Personally I’m a AMD fan. Can you tell me what’s going bad for AMD? Why is it behind Intel in the sales of dual core processors. Is it the marketing strategy of Intel… or is Intel that good that it deserves the praise…..?

Choto Cheeta  on September 5th, 2007

This is some thing you may be intersted in !!!

New Batch of AMD Quad Core Processors, http://multicore.amd.com/us-en/AMD-Multi-Core/Products/Desktop-PC.aspx

Sridhar  on December 28th, 2007

HI,

I am a die hard fan of AMD. AMD is the inventer of x64 architecture. I have been using AMD since Jan 2003. I was using AMD 1700+ XP and its almost 5 years now and the computer is doing really well. I had bought anew PC with AMD X24400+ and its really performing well. My friend has tried to play Spiderman3 on intel core 2 duo and its not even opening, but on my computer it runs smoothly. So I would suggest go for AMD. Intel has the market share beacuse most of the people buy intel blindly, because intel is in India much before AMD, many people even dont know about AMD. AMD hyper transport technology has 2000MHz speed and the FSB and north bridge technoloy is eliminated and HT technology is been used by AMD. Which really increase the data transfer speed.

Uttam  on December 31st, 2007

Hi

How about AMD Turion is it better than C2D???

Choto Cheeta  on December 31st, 2007

Uttam, Core 2 Duo as a processor is bettern than any AMD x2 range…

See you just dont buy a processor you buy a full system which contains many other device… so even if you have a better processor still you may see your system is under performing because of the poor supporting hardwares…

It all depends on the budget you have !!!

So suppose if you have a budget or Rs. 35,000/-, in that case you see Acer 4710 which is a Core 2 Duo model and again Compaq 6608AU which is an AMD Turion X2 model…

Between then over all its the compaq V6608AU… in kolkata this model sales at Rs. 35,200/- incl VAT with 2 GB of RAM (1GB x 2 stick)…

Now if you have a budget of Rs. 45k or more in that case yes, go for Core 2 Duo only, say about Dell 1420 / 1520 or HP DV6515TX…

When going for Core 2 Duo model, make sure you get a m,odel which comes with GMA x3100 or higher like Nvidia 8400 GM or such… !!!

Shivankk Gandhi  on February 21st, 2008

Dear Choto Cheeta

I am planning to buy a PC in near future. My range is around Rs.25,000 (+ – 2000 will do) Can you please advice me which processor and motherboard should i buy ? ( out of AMD and INTEL C2D )

My problem stands the same as of Mr. Balaji ( problem posted above ). And I mostly work on heavy softwares like Photoshop, Corel, Flash etc. and also I am a movie buff, so keeping both the views in mind please help me out.

Shivankk Gandhi

Shivankk  on February 25th, 2008

Dear choto,

If could support me on choosing a correct motherboard and processor, it would really be of great help. Thankx in advance. :)

Choto Cheeta  on February 25th, 2008

Certainly sir.. can you please tell me what is your need (purpose of the computer, as what apps you plan to run) and budget :D

Shivankk  on February 26th, 2008

I basically need my computer for heavy apps like photoshop, corel, flash etc and to watch movies.
So a processor and a mother board which would fit my budget of Rs. 25k (Preferably Core2Duo). And i am also planning to buy an LCD 19″ within that. So whats the best possible combination i can have which will serve my purpose for at least 3 years.

Choto Cheeta  on February 26th, 2008

Hello Shivankk

Personally this is what I would suggest for a budget of Rs. 25k (+-2k) and your need… Do note, as depending on your local place the price may be here and there by max of 1k in total… As if its costlier than 1k, understand that the vendor is asking higher price, so bargain or look for any other store :)

Shivankk  on February 27th, 2008

WOW.Thanks Choto, you nearly solved all my problems. But how about the XFX 630i nvidia 7150 instead of the ASUS M2A-VM (Nvidia 6150 chipset). Whats your opinion on this ?

And I also read your review on XFX 630i nvidia 7150 . So I wanted to ask that does the absence of dual-channel really hinder the overall perfomance(in relation to my kind of use i.e. photoshop and movie viewing etc.) ?

And what is the major difference between AMD X2 4600+ and the AMD X2 4200+ ?

priyanka  on March 18th, 2008

Hi,
I want to buy laptop in the range of INR35000.
Please suggest suitable model at this range.
Is compaq 6608AU good buy?

Choto Cheeta  on March 18th, 2008

Compaq v6608au is no longer in production, so mam, may I know your usage so that it would be easy for me to judge a suitable model for you :)

thank you.

Priyanka  on March 24th, 2008

I’m looking for basic home usage (no heavy software or gaming). My requirements are : OS- MS windiws
Screen :15.4″
Bluetooth
RAM : 1GB
Budget : Around 35000

Choto Cheeta  on March 24th, 2008

Hello Priyanka,

For your usage I would suggest, Lenovo 3000 N200 0769-A29 which is Rs. 29,500 incl tax and every thing.

How ever thats the base model and would come with 512 MB RAM, therefor ask the vendor for an extra 1 GB DDR2 667 MHz Notebook RAM module which should be Rs. 1100/-.

This notebook doesnt have any OS< therefore you may buy Windows XP SP2 Pro which should be Rs. 5200/- (all) or Windows Vista home premium which is Rs. 5500/- (all).

Thank you.

abhisek  on March 27th, 2008

Am looking to buy a laptop in the range of 35K. Light home and office usage. Pls advise.

whats your opinion on Dell Inspiron 1525

Choto Cheeta  on March 27th, 2008

If you can afford Dell 1525 then yes certainly thats the product to eye for :)

But for your use, I would say Lenovo 3000 N200 is more than enough (with extra 512 MN or 1 GB RAM) which comes at Rs. 29,500/- incl all tax and duty :)

abhisek  on March 28th, 2008

i am eying it right but need to know if that will give me the biggest bang for my buck.

looked at the lenovo 3000 N200. two things – the web price on the lenovo site is 32,490. Where will i find the price that you have quoted?? and secondly – it has free DOS – no windows. what would that mean for my usage??

A couple of my friends using vista are advising me not to take vista (compatibility problems) and instead go in for Windows XP. Your views??

aditya  on April 6th, 2008

Thanks Choto! you are doing a great work by doing this selfless service.
Any way I feel most people here are basically home users who want an excellent combination of motherboard and cpu irrespective of the brand.the rest of the things you can add up.But it should be future ready and should be very good for video applications(graphics),multiple application handling etc.I believe there is no point in wasting your hard earned money running after the ‘latest’ in this highly fluctuating technological scenario, where the price also fluctuates a lot.
Personally I am using an amd processor for the past 5 years and another pentium iv(HT-1.9 ghz, intel 845gc) for the past 3 years.both haven’t given me any trouble as such. Now I prefer to buy/upgrade/split the existing in to two computers (as the old computers has the value of peanuts these days) to a windows vista ready enviornment.
So i would love to see a few best combinations of cpu -mother boards which are economical or value buys.Hope you can help me and others who wants to build their dream mechines
Once again thanks for all your efforts!

@Azlan

What is your budget for a graphics card ??

Sir, really unfortunate but I really do not have any contact in Pakistan hence I am unable to speak of the rates available there.

USD values has really little mean over countries which has import / excise duty !!!!

Hence sir you have to ask in local market to get a quotation !!!

Thank you,
